The Role: Founding Operator

We're looking for a Founding Operator to architect and lead our finance operations practice from the ground up. In this role, you will be the bridge between our product and real-world financial workflows. You'll use Patterns' platform to run financial operations for customers and work hands-on with early customers to refine it. Your goal is to turn manual, complex finance processes into streamlined, repeatable workflows powered by our technology.

What You'll Do

• Build our service delivery model: Create the implementation playbook for how we onboard customers and implement our technology in their finance operations.
• Develop customer workflows: Work with clients to understand their finance operations, then design and implement automated workflows using our platform.
• Create scalable processes: Establish standardized approaches for common finance use cases that we can efficiently roll out to new customers.
• Guide implementation: Work hands-on with finance teams at client companies to implement our platform and optimize their finance operations.
• Drive product evolution: Use insights from customer implementations to inform our product roadmap and feature development.

Who You Are

• Finance + AI: You're deeply interested in how finance, credit, and accounting intersect with data infrastructure and AI.
• Experience: You might have started your career in fintech, investment banking, private equity, audit, or accounting — ideally with experience at a Bay Area startup where you saw finance operations up close.
• Technical: You're fluent in Excel and financial modeling. You can query a database with SQL, and you're comfortable jumping into Python or a Jupyter notebook to analyze data.
• Builder: You've built or improved financial reporting processes or tools before (for example, automated a reporting workflow, implemented a planning system, or created dashboards for a CFO).
• Leader: Perhaps you've been a fractional CFO, led finance operations at a fintech startup, or honed your expertise in accounting/audit and now want to create something new. Either way, you're ready to build from the ground up.
• Operator: You're proactive, organized, and execution-focused. You excel at taking big goals and breaking them into practical steps – exactly what's needed when reimagining how companies manage their finances.
